Most likely you are wondering what the heck what Humans vs. Zombies is. I was introduced to the game by Lydia Luke probably in November of last year. We were talking and having some lunch at Einstein’s bagels when she stops me mid-sentence, gets up and takes off running out the door behind a bus, behind a tree, and completes her “attack” on an unsuspecting guy. I of course ask her what in the world that was all about when she returned and she explained the game to me…

Basically, this is a giant game of tag. Everyone but 1 or 2 start out as humans (and wear a bandana around their arm). The other 2 start out as zombies (and wear a bandana around their head). The humans are trying to avoid getting tagged by the zombie…if they get tagged they turn into a zombie themselves and start chasing humans. Humans are not defenseless though. If you shoot a zombie with a Nerf gun or a throw a sock and hit them, they are “stunned” for 30 minutes, hence the zombies need to be a little stealthy.

Some of the guys that come to XA asked me to play this round with them and about 250 other people, so of course I played. Now let me stop here. Depending on the type of person you are, you are right now thinking “that sounds like the most awesome game in the world and I want to play” or are thinking “that’s lame…im way to ‘grown up’ to play a silly game of tag with Nerf guns”. I was probably a little more on the too grown up side than the really excited to play side on day 1, but after that I began to think about some things…

What changes in our brains that makes us think that we are too grown up to do things like playing tag? When is that last time you had an excuse to chase a random stranger? When do we flip the “I don’t shoot Nerf guns” switch in our brains? Think about it, when was the last time you saw a 40-year-old shoot a Nerf gun? Or chase someone?

Well as a 25-year-old, married guy with a 2-year-old, let me just say that I had a blast these past two weeks throwing socks at people I don’t know, running around like an idiot with a Nerf gun, and wearing a bandana on my arm in upper level accounting classes…let me side note on that: I can’t tell you how many times I got asked if I had joined a gang, to which I always replied, “yes, an accounting gang.” When I then explained the game, I got a “grow up” look and usually an, “oh…”. Accountants never play humans vs zombies I guess…

So let me encourage you tonight to act like a kid every once in a while. Do those things that you may be a bit reserved about because you are “too old”. This summer I have resolved to:

Re-learn how to do a backflip and use that as my primary way to enter a pool

Boogie board

Pull an awesome prank on my wife

Wear some American Eaglewood jean shorts out in public (only a few of you will know what this means)

Drink a bunch of energy drinks and stay up all night for no good reason whatsoever

Race someone on foot, for fun

Build a ramp and Rollerblade off it. j/k im never doing that.

build a fort…and defend it!

wear a costume somewhere inappropriate

When we were kids and did all these things we were less stressed, had more fun, and made way more friends. Anyone else in, or have suggestions to add to the list?

As I sit here writing this, I know this may “stir the pot”, so to speak, however, with something as monumental as the passing of the new health care bill, I want to share some of my thoughts…

First, I do not think this thing is as bad as the republicans say it is. Second, I do not think it is as wonderful as the democrats say it is. We hear of certain news channels and radio broadcasts being conservative right and liberal left…let’s remember the truth of that and think that the truth of this bill is somewhere in the middle of the two extremes we are hearing.

A couple of quick notes on some of the controversial topics of the bill:

To my knowledge it does not contain “taxpayer-funded” abortions. There is a provision for expanded abortion coverage, to be paid for with one’s private funds.

The “Cornhusker Kickback” was taken out. For those of you unaware, this was a provision written in, then removed, which covered the expenses associated with putting the bill in effect for the state of Nebraska, in exchange for their “in favor” vote. This was removed and the government is helping all states with these costs.

Taxes will probably go up…your health care expenses will probably go down. In an equal ratio? Who knows…

There are plenty of things which this bill contains that I have no idea about. I have not read the bill, nor plan to. However, I do know this: I have been without health insurance for years because of the cost and although hopefully in the coming months I will be in a position to afford health care without the bill, I feel for the people who cannot.

There are a countless number of things in which the government provides for the American people, but essentially the goal is one thing: the well-being of its people. However many programs, bills, and laws are passed are all for naught if the well-being of its people are not protected. I believe that this bill is an attempt to protect the well-being of its people. The argument against this bill is “why should I pay for someone else’s health care?” Or in other words, why don’t those “non-health care” people just go out and get a better job so they can afford it themselves? The phrase I keep hearing is “to each his own”, however, we do not say “to each his own” when it comes to fighting al-Qaeda. We do not say “to each his own” when it comes to education. We do not say “to each his own” when it comes to driving down I-16. I see Health Care as a need much higher on my “well-being” priority list than most others. If you get right down to it, as a father, the health of my daughter is more important to me than her education or the ability to drive her to Texas on I-16. That is not to diminish the need for education or roads, but to highlight my desire for health.

I agree that there may be much better ways to deal with the rising costs of health care and the inability of people to afford it, however, something had to be done. The major issues that I heard Rush Limbaugh and everyone else on 1240AM in Statesboro raise, were dealt with…

So in the days ahead, when everyone is freaking out about the passing of this bill, I urge you to just chill out and relax! God has put all 219 people in office that voted in favor of this bill and calls us to be submissive to that in Romans 13:1. Let’s remember these things:

Getting angry doesn’t help

Talking badly or screaming “baby killer” at a Democrat doesn’t help (this happened in the House yesterday)

Blessed are those who are not offended by Jesus. Things will get much worse than this before He comes back. If you are offended by the passing of the health care bill, start dealing with the offense.

This has the potential to help a lot of people who cannot afford a basic need. If you don’t need the help, try not to be so selfish.

So its that time again…March Madness! I have always loved the tournament and usually find myself plastered to a TV watching some team like Murray State with players I have never heard of starting their game at 10:30pm Pacific time, just to watch these guys give everything they’ve got. No one gets paid big bucks and most of the players do not have a shot at the NBA, yet with a passion that can only be explained by a love for the game, these guys will jump into the bleachers, dive on the floor, and get so excited for a chance to move on and…get stomped by some big time school like Kentucky (by the way, my pick to win it all)

One of my best friends in the world, Eric Marshall, a high school teammate, a brother in Christ, and one of the kindest people I have ever met, played basketball at Wofford for 4 years. He passed away playing ball in a pick up game in April of last year. I have had a number of opportunities to hear Mike Young, basketball coach at Wofford College, speak about Eric and his passing. At Eric’s funeral, he spoke eloquently and graciously about how a college kid poured into HIS life. Mr. Young made a special trip to Greenbrier High School for the retirement of Eric’s high school jersey (which I was privileged to be a part of). He again spoke beautifully about Eric. Every time I have heard him speak, he made it a point to let everyone know that this basketball season was to be dedicated to Eric Marshall. Their team wore patches on their jerseys with his number on it his memory this season, a really cool tribute to a dear friend of mine.

However, Wofford’s basketball season did not go on as it has in years past. Wofford finished 26-8, won the SoCon tournament, and is making their debut in the NCAA tournament this year! I congratulate Mike Young, the Wofford Terriers Basketball Team, and all of those supporting this past season in memory of Eric Marshall. Although they face a tough draw against Wisconsin, I’m rooting for you all!

E…still miss you bro.

My classmate may be in denial

Audit is dull, so here I do compile

A grouping of line, meter, stanza, and prose

Words to paper from the soul I suppose

-

Last time I wrote about audit rules and regulations

Today I will spare your brain the degradation

So I will tell you a story of my loyal friend

Who is by my side no matter what end

-

Our story begins with a prayer for rain

And a promise made from one in vain

“You believe in God and my garden is dry.

So pray for rain and I’ll tell you why…

If it rains I’ll believe God and believe you

And I’ll buy your hearts desire…a beloved Shih-Tzu.”

-

Well she went and she prayed and the next day it did pour

The garden was wet but the promise ignored

Despair is too strong but disappointed no doubt

But in that hour a call went out

-

A coworker of the sister of the girl who prayed

Recently had a baby and a decision was made

“He needs a good home and I’ll give him to you.”

And out emerged the beautiful Shih-Tzu!

-

His name was Poochie but she thought that blew

So he was renamed Wugzy Mugatu

And on the day he was handed over to Jess

She jumped for joy because her dog was the best

-

But as she got in the car and seatbelt was strapped

He jumped out of her arms and into my lap

And bitterness welt up inside of her heart

As a bond was made she could never part

-

He supposedly was trained, but that judgement was poor

For he ran away, ate trash, and pissed on the floor

He was very “refined” and would not have his treat

For it was made for a dog, so he did not eat

-

He had been here before so was content to wait

Hoping every night for scraps from my plate

And after some days with his head held low

He slowly made his way over to his bowl

-

And he ate his food…some say he ate crow

Either way he learned who was running this show

This bad dog that we had began to disappear

As I taught him to sit, stay, and come here

-

And it was in those hours of training thereafter

The bond became strong between dog and master

And then came the day his mood became blue

As master’s number one, became number two

-

Wife was pregnant with baby on the way

And the hours were gone when they use to play

As the years went by he became sort-of neglected

And this shaggy haired dog thought on life and reflected

-

In a tactical move and with the precision of snipers

He took his stand for attention and began eating diapers

Breath smelling horrid and a beard full of crap

I had an easy solution and gave him a smack!

But the next day he went back and ate another

Igniting a rage I’ve never seen from baby’s mother

-

And it came out that she’s despised him since that very first day

And has never liked him all along the way,

“He smells like a foot and you never cut his hair!

So it’s time we give him to someone who cares…”

-

But then a heart of compassion arose

In the hearts of the owners of the Shih-Tzu rogue

We decided he deserved another chance

And his eating diapers was no happenstance

-

There must be a reason for his poo-eating faction

We felt he was missing tender-hearted love and compassion

So we resolved to change and on that day swore

To take care of Wugz better and love him all the more

-

So if you heard the story’s of a stinky gross mutt

Who was annoying and stupid and won’t stop licking his butt

He has changed and for that…so have I

And we are both back to being just two regular guys

-

So throw him a ball or scratch his head

His breath isnt gross and doesn’t smell like he’s dead

So this is my ballad a compilation of proze

To tell you the story of my Shih-Tzu Rogue

An area of Skid Row in LA

Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favorite actors. At least to me, every character he plays leaves me at the end of the movie saying, “oh yeah, that was RDJ!” Iron Man, Tropic Thunder, Sherlock Holmes…last night I watched The Soloist, a true story about a man who develops schizophrenia in his second year at Julliard, drops out, becomes homeless in the streets of LA. He is found by a LA Times writer playing a two-stringed violin beautifully. I’ll stop telling plot for those of you that want to watch…

It has received mixed reviews because the point of the movie is to capture schizophrenia, so at times the movie seems like it lacks focus. To me, this was all the more convincing of a reality that is this disease. Anyway, this homeless man lives on Skid Row in LA. Real quick, here’s the deal:

Skid Row is possibly the largest homeless population in the United States (7,000 to 8,000 are the estimates). It is a section of downtown LA between 3rd and 7th street where the homeless are legally allowed to sleep on the streets from 9pm to 6am. The LA governing authorities realized that there was not enough housing in homeless shelters to support the homeless population of LA, so they legalized “sleeping on the streets” in this area of town. Drug addicts, murderers, drunks, mentally handicapped, and more sleep in tents or on the pavement every night. This is part of America…

Do you realize that if everyone in the US that calls themselves ”Christian” would give $1/year, each person living on Skid Row could afford a $2,500/mo. rent payment? Now obviously, money is not the solution to the problem on Skid Row. Counseling, rehab, friendship, a desire for a fresh start, and much more are…however, it does make you think. The situation on Skid Row is a situation we in America associate with “lesser developed countries” …the favelas outside Rio De Janeiro, streets of Shanghai, Port au Prince…

It was eye-opening to me to look into Skid Row in LA last night and realize that this is something much closer to home than I thought. It breaks my heart…

I wrote this poem during my auditing class today. I think that it captures my sentiments pretty well…

I’ll give you a picture you cannot conjure

A Cajun accountant…mind begins to wander

He’s very nice, but teaching not his best

This class I get C’s but A’s in the rest

Pen and ink, poem and rhyme

Anything to pass the time

AICPA rule number 101

“Emphasis on Independence”…now this is audit fun!

Partner, client, manager, staff

Clerical duties and that’s not the half!

All of these words were said in under a minute

My brain is open, but this stuff will not fill it

Ten minutes later and still on the same slide

Rule 101, my displeasure I won’t hide

Finally we move on, and what may it be?

Ooh, some riveting info on disclosure of fees!

We had a quiz today I didn’t know much about

So little in fact, I first heard when he passed it out

Probably did pretty bad, but will be okay

Hopefully multiple choice helped save my day

Antonio lent me this pen and I give him my thanks

Dr. M tells a joke: which immediately tanks

2 of 40 are looking towards the front of the room

The rest at their phones, books, and walls…eagerly waiting to leave soon

Another joke, thankfully Sam entertains

Leading to rule 102, you don’t know this type of pain.

Anything else will be boring. I have nothing left to say.

Except that I eagerly await my graduation from this in May

Today I have nothing pressing on my heart to read, so I am going back to my “default”, which is Psalms. I am still in Psalm 4 which says this:

“1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

2 How long, O you sons of men,
Will you turn my glory to shame?
How long will you love worthlessness
And seek falsehood? Selah

<sup>3</sup> But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly;
The LORD will hear when I call to Him.

4 Be angry, and do not sin.
Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah

5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,
And put your trust in the LORD.

6 There are many who say,
“Who will show us any good?”
LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

7 You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.

<sup>8</sup> I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

A few days ago I was focusing on the part that says “Be angry. Do not sin…” It seemed odd to me, so I looked up the meaning of the Hebrew word used, which meant something more like trembling or shaking or getting excited. I paused to think more about this word and ask the Lord what this verse was really saying. (see “How I Study the Bible- Day 1)

So as I spent that day asking about this verse, I felt that I should go back to the previous 3 verses to figure out what this writer (maybe David) was going through to lead God to tell him “Be angry. Do not sin…” Ok, so that I would not look like an idiot, I went to blueletterbible.org and looked up psalm 4, and sure enough in the first part it says that this is a Psalm of David, so he is the writer. One of the hardest parts of reading Psalms is figuring out who is speaking when. Sometimes in this Psalm David is speaking to God, and sometimes God is speaking to David. It is important to figure out which is which so lets look at that. Verse 1 is pretty easy, “Hear me when I call O God…”. This is David speaking to God. We find out from this verse that David has been relived of some distress and asks God to hear his prayer. Verse 2 is trickier. The speaker is addressing the “sons of men”. Generally this usually is a term that God uses to speak of humans (Gen 11:5, 2 Samuel 7:14, Psalm 12:8, Psalm 33:13, Eph 3:5…and many more. I looked up “sons of men” on blueletterbible to find these verses). So I am assuming that verse 2 is God speaking to David. This is tricky because David says, “hear my prayer” then God starts speaking. Can we assume that David asked something (not written down) and this is the answer? I just looked through the entire Psalm and do not see anything that looks like a prayer to be “heard”, so I am guessing that this is God’s response to whatever he asked. I can only assume that what he asked is unimportant, since it was omitted, and that what he asked would only distract from the important part (what God said, and how David responded to that).

If I keep writing this thing will be so long that no one will read it, so I am going to stop here and go on more tomorrow. If you are following, please try some of the ways here that I study the bible to get your own answers and revelation on these verses. Here is the recap:

I was intrigued by the verse that said “Be angry. Do not sin…” so I looked up the Hebrew word that was originally written by David. The word more commonly means to tremble, shake, be excited, or be agitated than it does “Be angry”. There must be a reason that the translators chose “angry” rather than excited and I am still trying to figure that out. We also know that David has been relived of some kind of distress and he asks the Lord to hear a prayer that we do not have record of. God then hears David’s prayer and answers him in the next verse, which we have not gotten into much yet. We are trying to figure out why David is instructed to ‘Be angry (or excited, or tremble) and not to sin.

I have to say that Thanksgiving may be my favorite holiday of the year. I love to cook, not for myself but for others. Cooking is one of those things that may stress some people out, but for me, I love to go into the kitchen and spend an hour cooking something, then serve it to other people. The past couple of days have reflected this love for cooking and serving others, just not in the way that I thought.

So for the past couple of days I have been cooking turkey (Emerill has an awesome cranberry-orange glazed turkey that I think God gave him the recipe for), cornbread and wild rice stuffing, apple pie…Because of this, my time with the Lord was in the kitchen, talking and praying…thinking and reflecting about many things. I never reflected on Psalm 4 in the past two days. This is the verse I have been reflecting on:

“34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clotheYou? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ ” - Matthew 25:34-40

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my friends at Abundant Life serving our community!! You guys are awesome. Thanks for being so encouraging.

In May of 2010, I will finally be graduating. Since coming back to school in August of 2008, school has been much different. I have a different purpose in being here. I have a different outlook on my schoolwork. I have a different view on taking out loans to pay for school. All of this comes to fruition in my classrooms, where I am there to learn and get as much out of the professor’s brain as I possibly can. I am that guy in the classroom that asks a hundred questions. When a professor asks, “does that make sense to everyone?”, I am the guy in the front row that says, “not really”. When a professor writes something down that doesn’t make sense to me, I stop him/her and ask questions. Sometimes the professor wrote something wrong, but most of the time, they do not. They almost always stop their lesson, give attention to my question, and reconcile whatever it is that is making me not understand. These same professors have given me much encouragement about being confident and bold enough to ask questions. They tell me that they have students that come to them during office hours and tell them that they were wondering the same questions that I ask. Some have told me that my questions in class have forced them to come to class better prepared because they will not be able to get through class teaching something that they do not really know about. I have also noticed over the past year and a half that when professors give out the average test score of the class compared to the average test scores of other classes, the class I am in, is usually higher. This does not have to do with my test score, but I think it may have to do with the guy in the front row asking the questions that everyone else is afraid, or embarassed, or unsure how to ask. I have many theories about why people do not ask questions about the things they are unsure of, however, this blog is not intended to address those things, but rather ask a question that no one asks.

Since becoming a Christian around my 18th birthday, I have been told one thing more often than any other: “read your bible”. This come in many different forms and cliche sayings. ”Do your quiet time”, “sharpen your sword”…whatever. Whether I am in a Baptist church, Methodist church, Pentecostal church, Non-denominational church, informal bible study…”read your bible”. This is because it is good advice. Good advice that I would follow, but I found myself always wanting to ask a question: “How do you ‘read’ your bible?” I mean, I know how to read, but how do you “read” AND “understand” your bible? The bible is thousands of pages, covering many different time periods, often seeming to talk about nonsense. I found that unless I was reading a story, like Moses parting the Red Sea or stories about Jesus, I didn’t know what I was reading or why. So I started asking people the question: How do you read your bible? I got many answers, all of which have culminated in how I read, study, and try to comprehend the bible. If you are someone who has often wondered this very same question, the rest of this blog will attempt to show you how I study the bible. I would encourage you to ask others as well, and come up with your own way of studying.

First, I have found that I must have a default thing to read. For me right now it is the book of Psalms and I am to Psalm 4. I found that if I do not have a default to go to, I will end up playing bible Russian Roulette…flipping the thing open and reading whatever page it lands on. The result: I never focused on anything, making it hard to get much out of my reading and making it even more difficult to retain anything I read. This doesn’t mean that I read Psalms everyday. I just means that if I don’t have something that I want to read in particular, I go to Psalms. You can pick anything, I just happened to pick Psalms. If I want to read Matthew tomorrow, I will read some of Matthew.

Second, I bought myself a pack of many different colored highlighters. Are you the person that highlights or underlines everything in one color? If you are, you probably often go back and wonder “why in the world did I underline that?” or think, “that is a cool verse, but why did I think it was good enough to highlight?” My trick is that I use a different color highlighter to signify what I am thinking. My highlighters and meanings are this: Pink = Gods love for us (anything having to do with God loving us, if I think it is highlighter worthy, I highlight pink). Orange = Attributes of God (often I read something about God that I think is cool, or I didn’t know, or confuses me…I highlight that orange). Green = Jesus Returning (often taboo to talk about, but yes, Jesus is coming back and the bible talks about it a ton…I highlight that green). Blue = anything about Jesus (2/3 of the bible was written before Jesus, and it all talks about Him. when I realize that something may be talking about Jesus, or is a picture of Jesus…I highlight blue). Purple = prayer and worship (the bible is full of people that call out to God in good time, in bad times, in in-between times. I love being able to flip through my bible and see some purple and see what people were praying or singing about). Yellow = anything else interesting that doesnt fit into one of the above categories (very rarely does something not fit, but if it doesnt, its yellow. Often things get yellow when I do not understand them at all, but for some reason that verse is sticking out to me. I highlight it yellow so that I can find it later when I want to study that verse more and figure out what it is talking about. So that is the highlighter trick. It works really well to help organize your thoughts in the moment (aka. what is this verse talking about) but also gives you a good way of recalling what you may have been thinking 3 months ago when you last read that verse.

Thirdly, I have a couple of websites that are invaluable to me:

www.biblegateway.com (this website can search for certain words in the bible really quickly. For instance, say I am reading a chapter in the bible that seems to talk an awful lot about hope. I will go to biblegateway, type “hope” in the search box and search it. Then all of the verses in the entire bible with the word “hope” in it, pop up.)

www.blueletterbible.org (very similar to the one above as far as searching for words, but this website has a lot more really helpful features. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament was written in Greek. This website has a feature where you can look up the Hebrew or Greek words that were actually used in the original writings, then look up the definitions of those words. Often times we do not have a good word for word translation into English. I have found numerous “deeper meanings” to verses from this tool)

www.bible-history.com/isbe (this is the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia online. Basically this can give you background info on just about anything or anyone in the bible. If you are reading Ephesians and want to know about the town that this church is in, Ephesus, you can look up the word Ephesus and the ISBE will tell you all about it. If you have ever heard me preach and wonder, how the heck did he know that about the history of that place, I probably got it from here)

Ok now that we have the tools ready, lets start studying Psalm 4.

“1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved me in my distress;
Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

2 How long, O you sons of men,
Will you turn my glory to shame?
How long will you love worthlessness
And seek falsehood? Selah

<sup>3</sup> But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly;

<sup>8</sup> I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

Ok, so for the most part, I almost never have set on my heart that I will study an entire chapter of something in a day. My mindset is this: this is God speaking to me. If I think I get it and can move on, or if I feel like I have already learned it, I am almost sure that I do not get it and have not learned it. Usually I move on not because I get it, but because I realize I will never fully get it. For example, I am in Psalm 4. I started Psalms as my default about two months ago…with Psalm 1.

So the first day of any new chapter, I read it all the way through and then find the one part of it that seemed to “stick out” to me. I don’t know why I do this, but maybe it is to make sure that I do not get bored with the chapter on day one. I try to find the verse that I think is really cool, or really confusing, or really odd…then study that one. In Psalm 4, there are two parts that stick out to me today. Verse 4 and verse 7. Verse 4 sticks out because it says “be angry…do not sin”, and verse 7 is sticking out because “having gladness put into my heart sounds awesome”. Today I am going to look at verse 4, simply because of order. I feel that if both of these are sticking out to me, maybe I will be able to better understand 7 later, after I understand 4. So I will focus on this verse: “4 Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah”

The first thing that I do with any verse is go to blueletterbible.org and look up the verse and then click on the tiny blue “C” to the left of this verse. This brings up the Hebrew words that were actually written. I am looking in particular at the word that was used for “Angry” since this is the word that stood out to me. The Hebrew word that was translated in the NKJV to “Be angry” is “rogaz” and it means:

1) tremble, quake, rage, quiver, be agitated, be excited, be perturbed

a) (Qal) to quake, be disquieted, be excited, be perturbed

b) (Hiphil) to cause to quake, disquiet, enrage, disturb

c) (Hithpael) to excite oneself

I also see that it means, “to be moved or disturbed”. On the bottom of the page are all the places that this word rogaz is used in the bible. If I just searched for “angry” most of these verses would not come up because they were translated “be moved” or “be disquieted”. I now have a MUCH better understanding of what this verse is talking about and can see how other writers used this word to get and even better understanding of this word. Some of the verses that I think highlight its meaning are: Gen 45:24 “be troubled”, Job 9:6 “shake and tremble”.

I have been writing for over an hour and although we are not really “into” studying too much, I am going to stop here for the day. I am going to think about this word rogaz today and ask God to reveal to me more of what it means. It obviously does not mean “angry” like I originally thought, however, there is a reason why it is translated to angry. If you want to join with me in this, please do. Feel free to comment on what you think God meant by:

Be “rogaz”. Do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed.

Tomorrow I will continue blogging my study on Psalm 4.

So if you have followed or read any of my blogs, you know that they have always been something that the Lord has taught me, showed me, spoke to me, etc. This blog is not one of those.

When a man walks into a public restroom, it is all business. If you talk, your weird. If you look at anything other than your urinal, your are a pervert. If you choose a urinal next to someone when you do not have to, well…we’ll stop there. So naturally, one does not pay attention to much during this point in his day, however, a major disturbance in my life came a couple of weeks ago in a public restroom while Jess and I were watching a GSU play.

The man sitting behind me in the play was an older gentleman. I know he is a professor here because I have always seen him on campus, and let’s face it…if he has been around since I first came to GSU, there is no way he is still a student. As I am in the bathroom I notice that he walks out without washing his hands! I go back to my seat and advise Jess to not shake hands with that guy if the opportunity presents itself. This started a trend in me to see if people do indeed wash their hands…and they DON’T! I would venture to guess that 75% of guys on campus at GSU don’t wash with soap. Some may swish their hands under water, but that doesn’t count in my book.

Now I just want to clear the air and announce to all men that if you wash your hands with soap, it doesn’t mean that I think you did not take a shower that morning. It does not mean that I think you have an STD. It also does not mean that you have bad aim and got some on your hand. It just means you are considerate. What if someone come to shake your hand, but first shoves their hand into their pants, and then goes in for the shake? No thanks!

Start an epidemic. Wash your hands…with soap!
